Boo at the Zoo

Monday night Lukas, Daddy & I met up with Grandma Susie, Aunt Whitney, Aunt Amelia, Devon & Kolby at the Little Rock Zoo for Boo at the Zoo. For 5 bucks a head, we got to go in and trick-or-treat lots of different tents set up around the zoo. For extra cash, the boys got to ride fair-type rides, go "bag fishing", and we all got to ride the haunted train. It was an excellent place to parade the boys about in their super-cute costumes. You can see the cuteness below...

Thanks for the Present!

Thanks to Aunt Ginger, Uncle Allen, and Cousin Fern for the ultra-cool Haba Noah's Ark! It's made of wood, and Lukas figured out how to put it together right away. It came with tons of animal pairs plus Noah, his wife, and two kids. The animals are residing beside my bed in the floor right now, but soon they'll be back on the ark sailing off to Lukas' room.

Birthday Boy

Lukas had a mini-celebration at Nanna's last Friday on his birthday. His big bash is coming up this Saturday. Nanna made homemade chicken strips, mashed potatoes & gravy. It was yummy to our tummies. He also got to open up a couple gifts from us. Daddy had to miss out because of stinky old work.

Sweet Boy

Lukas has been spending a lot of quality time lately with his "donkeys". The small one is an Eeyore I got when I had a Classic Pooh bedroom and lived with my Mom & Ed. The bigger one was a birthday gift from Rich when I was pregnant with Lukas and planning the Pooh nursery. Here he is watching TV with them:

Last night he wanted to sleep with his donkeys and frog. He put them in bed and named them Eeyore, Donkey, and Toad. Then he said they needed a hug and kiss, so he hugged each one and then gave them a kiss. It was so sweet. When I tucked them all in he made sure they all got cover, then I ran for the camera...

Air Show

Sunday the boy & I went to the Air Show with Grandma Susie, Devon & Kolby. It was at the Little Rock Air Force Base. The boys had a good time, but some of the jets were too loud for them. Lukas & I made our way to the cockpit of some sort of plane and got some pictures. Kolby napped though a lot of the show. Overpriced food was eaten. Our blooper of the day was when I pushed Lukas' stroller (Lukas was in it) up behind Grandma and she started walking backwards to take a picture... CRASH! Grandma was on the ground and the stroller was left 3-wheeled. I still managed to push Lukas around because it was one of the back wheels. We'll see if Grandpa Grammer's welding neighbor can fix it up for us.

Arkansas State Fair

Friday I took Lukas to his first fair. I haven't been to the AR State Fair since high school (probably). It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Sure, there were lots of people, but nothing compared to what it would be at night.

After we parked we hopped on a trailer pulled by a tractor that was carting people from the parking lot to the main entrance. Lukas actually started crying. He loves tractors, and still he cried. I was pretty sure that was a good indication that he would NOT like riding the fair rides. He finally cheered up on the tractor wagon and did like riding the fair rides.

Today was a great day to take Lukas to his first fair - it was Coca Cola Kiddie Day. From 10am - Noon the little ones could ride the kiddie rides for free. Also, parents & kiddies got in the gate free. I was out 5 bucks for parking, the cash I dropped on fried foods, and the 5 dollar splurge of letting Lukas jump on a trampoline attached to a trapeze-type rig. I said no to the $12 in tickets it would have taken for the 2 of us to ride the ferris wheel.

I have pictures, but it's a miracle. My point & shoot camera has a sensor problem that I just discovered Thursday night while prepping for the fair trip. I pulled out the dSLR Friday morning to find my 2 rechargeable batteries were dead. I put in regular batteries and when I pulled the thing out at the fair, it said "low battery" and wouldn't take one picture. So, as a last resort, I pulled out the old iPhone and shot away. They look a lot better than they did while I was taking them, but they aren't great.

Next year we'll go at night & I'll make sure the dSLR has a full charge and a nice, fast lens.

Tales of the Crypt

Every year the high school students from Parkview do Tales of the Crypt at Mount Holly Cemetery in our neck of the woods. I think I've been every year, except 2005 when I was VERY pregnant, since I've lived downtown. The actors dress in period costumes, stand at the grave of the person they are portraying, and tell us a little about their lives as that person. Tonight it was me, Lukas, Nanna, and Daddy. We brought the baby frame backpack, which Lukas usually enjoys riding in, but tonight he wanted DOWN. While we were standing in line, someone spotted a large toad. Thanks to Nanna for grabbing it & handing it over to Lukas. It kept Lukas fairly well entertained until we had to leave because it was potty time. Fortunately I keep the kiddie potty in the van lined with 2 shopping bags for just such occasions.

Here's Lukas & the unfortunate toad (Lukas & Nanna released the toad before we left the cemetery - so he could find his mommy)...

Lukas Says

Picture it - Burns Park, Sunday afternoon. Lukas has to go potty. We head to the extremely stinky bathroom with no doors on the stall. I'm wiping down the potty & lift the seat when Lukas says "I have to poop". Great. I lower the lid and wipe some more. I put him on the seat and adjust him & his clothes. Lukas says "hold my nose". So, I stand there holding his nose while he poops. Nice.

Lukas at Nanna's

Here's some pix from September 5th & 6th at Nanna's...

Lukas at the Park

Way back on August 31st, I took Lukas down to Riverfront Park to play in the fountain. Good times were had!

Lukas Says

Tonight after I read to Lukas, sang to Lukas, and did all the tucking-in routines we have I was telling him that if I'm not home in the morning, Daddy will be here. Then he says...

L: I don't live here.
M: Okaaaaaay...
L: I live at Nanna's
M: Okay... but you're staying here tonight and tomorrow.

Lukas Stories

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

I picked Lukas up from school and took him to Nanna's office. Nanna and Lukas get in her car and Lukas wants to help get the sun-shades out of her front window. While helping he moves the rear view mirror. He tells Nanna "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, it was an accident". Lukas wants to fix her mirror, but when he's finished the left side is down and the right side is up... which is exactly how I keep my rear view mirror. That way I can see Lukas on the left and behind me on the right. He just figured everyone does their mirror that way.

I picked Lukas up from Nanna's later that evening. He fell asleep in the car, which was great because he was already in his jammies, but he had on his shoes. I carried him upstairs to his very dark bedroom. Took off one shoe, turned on the light, then dimmed it really low, took off the other shoe, and put him in bed. I started covering him with the sheet and one of his legs started kicking at the cover. He said something like "you've got to get the other one". I said, "do you want covers?". He says "yes". I start putting the sheet back on and he starts kicking again and saying "you've got to get the other one". I told him that I would get the comforter, but he had to have the sheet first. He was getting upset at this point and said something like "I can't sleep in this one". I finally realized that taking off the first shoe was a figment of my imagination and he was trying to get me to take his other shoe off. Oops! It was really dark in there.
