I hope Ginger & Allen keep it updated so we can watch Fern grow!

Changes

I haven't blogged in ages. Mostly because so many exciting changes have been going on around here. Lukas is growing up - officially. Now he sleeps in a crib with one whole side removed. He also wears big boy underwear, ALL THE TIME! That doesn't mean he doesn't have accidents, but they are becoming few and far between.

Tonight we went to a birthday party at a friend's home. Lukas was upstairs in a playroom chock full of toys and he managed to tear himself away, come downstairs, pick me out of 30+ people and tell me he had to poop. I figured there was at least a 50% chance that he had already done the deed in his undies, but he hadn't! We found an empty bathroom and he used the potty like a super big boy. Let me tell you if you don't already know, wiping a rump is much more pleasant if that rump hasn't been sitting on and squashing the poop.

As for the bed, a couple weeks ago Lukas fell asleep in the car on the way home, so I popped him in the crib and figured he was out. I let the dog out back, then came inside. I heard footsteps on the stairs and it freaked me out. Lukas had finally escaped his crib. For the next couple of mornings I was awakened by a sweet little boy beside my bed saying "I'm hunnnnngry". I was kind of worried about him falling while climbing out of bed and kind of excited about him growing out of his crib, so I pulled the side off the crib. The first night he cried a lot. He wanted me to "fix it". The next night he cried less. He didn't fall out of bed either night, but on about the 3rd night I decided to put my body pillow in the floor beside the crib as a cushion in case he fell. Well, that wouldn't do. He wanted to sleep on the pillow. So, I made the situation even more dangerous by putting the body pillow in the crib and letting him sleep on it. When I checked on him later, he was on the floor and I thought he had fallen out. Upon closer inspection, I realized that his blanket was very neatly spread out underneath him. He must have gotten squeezed out of bed by the giant pillow. I put him back in bed, put the body pillow on the floor, and it's been smooth sailing since. I was thinking it's time to upgrade to the twin sized bed we have in waiting, but last night we had our first potty accident in bed. I think he did it sometime in the night, because he was just kind of damp all over this morning. That kid can sleep through anything!

Lukas' imagination is in full swing too. He tells me things like "there was a raccoon in my room" or "I was on top of a car last night". I wonder if he is remembering dreams sometimes. I tried to explain dreams to him, but I don't think he got it.

He & Abby are still getting along very well. He will hold her head in his lap and say "I'm taking care of my dog". He also says "Abby loves me" and "Abby is my sweetheart". He's usually the one who feeds her, although it is under my supervision. He likes to let her out to potty too and give her treats. He even picked out some dog bones for her at Petsmart while Nanna was pushing him in he cart. He's good at getting Abby's toys and tossing them for her to chase, but he's bad about chasing her with his toy shopping cart. She doesn't like that.

Less Lukas specific changes are in the works too. Rich & I sold our sofa & loveseat in a yard sale last weekend and now we have a borrowed loveseat, a tiny Superman loveseat and a tiny Batman furry chair as our furniture. We've been to many furniture stores, fallen in love with the most expensive furniture we've seen, and now have to figure out how to settle for more moderately priced furniture. The good news is that most furniture stores, from the most expensive to the least, offer in home design consultations at no charge. We're going to take advantage of that on Monday. I'm excited to see what someone will come up with. If you've seen our living room, you know it presents some challenges. We did take down the glass French doors and the place looks much larger. Why didn't we do that the day we moved in???

I'm afraid that we're so indecisive that we'll still be using the previously mentioned setup this time next year. Also, the idea of not eating on the new furniture may delay our purchase.

We also have a mini bedroom makeover in the works - paint, ceiling fan, curtains, and curtain rods (another thing I'm being very indecisive about). So, if you're in the mood to paint, let me know!
