A Boy and His Daddy

I know there are several folks out there missing little Lukas this week. He's off in Texas with Grandma & Grandpa Haddock. Here are some pictures from Miss Kennedy's First Birthday Party to warm their hearts (okay, there are no pictures of the adorable Miss Kennedy, but those will come to a Photo Album pretty soon)...

Clifford The Big Red Dog

On Valentine's Day Lukas got to meet Clifford at Barnes and Noble. He wanted "to have her". Everyone is a "her" right now. He was pretty upset when I had to pull him away after this picture. You can see all the pictures in the Photo Album section.

Artist in Disguise

Lukas painted himself a very nice moustache & beard this morning.
Looks like he's having coffee, but it's just paint water. He's
singing a little song and the only things I can make out are "God the
Father" and "Holy Spirit" - kids are so cute when they try to sing.

Imagination

Today I believe I experienced Lukas' imagination for the first time. I'm sure he's always had an imagination, but I hadn't been invited into that world. We were at the apartment (which is available) cleaning and we brought along the "sea creatures". Lukas got this set from Grandma & Grandpa Haddock for Christmas and he loves it. They do not go in the tub oddly enough. We were playing with them today and talking about them being in the ocean or sea and he held out the sea turtle and said he was all wet (he wasn't), so I asked if we were in the ocean and he said yes and that he was all wet too. It was neat-o. Also, next time you see Lukas, ask him to say "octopus", it's really cute.

Here are my phone pix of just a few of the sea creatures...

Sidewalk Chalk

Last night Lukas laid himself out on the sidewalk and let me draw his
outline. Then it was my turn, but he was too busy sitting and
bouncing on me to make me a chalk outline. It was damp out this
morning, but Lukas was still there!

Stuff We Like #1

Welcome the first edition of "Stuff We Like". I've been inspired by a cool web site called z recommends, which I heard about on the Jumping Monkeys podcast. Z recs is a review site that reviews lots of cool kid stuff. They also have a site called Prizey and it's cool too. It tells you about giveaways on the web and how to enter the contests. I'm too lazy to enter many of them, but it's fun to look. Back to my blog... we buy a lot of baby stuff. So, I'm going to tell you what we think of the stuff we get. So, maybe it shouldn't be called "Stuff We Like" because maybe we won't like it. Hmmmm... how about "Stuff We Bought"? I'm not sure you'll be able to call my stuff reviews, because they won't be too in depth, but you'll get the gist of it.

Stuff #1 - "Smith" Shoes by Vincent Shoes

Lukas in his Smiths
As you can see, we chose the blue and yellow stripe shoe because I thought they were the funkiest. Well, I love them. Not only are they adorable, but the Velcro closure makes them easy enough for Lukas to put on himself (okay, he's only done it once). I also like that the Velcro closure is kind of disguised, it's just part of the shoe design. They always look clean too - that's a bonus. When I ordered them online, I first printed out their sizing chart and followed their instructions and we've got a great fit. I would say these run pretty wide, because Lukas wears an extra wide in StrideRites. These are very lightweight and the soles are flexible too. That's what we look for in a shoe.

Lukas got a new pair (different style) for Christmas that he'll grow into pretty soon. We'll talk about those later.

Stuff #2 - nutella

Can you believe we had never had nutella until last Thursday? Well, it's Sunday night and it is GONE. We ate it on English Muffins, waffles, a fortune cookie, and a spoon. I finished it off just eating it out of the jar. Rich frowned on eating it straight from the jar, but I told him it was no different than eating a candy bar. To which he replied "that's an expensive candy bar." Um, guess he's never bought a Ritter Sport (another thing I love - Target now carries a few varieties, and World Market in Colleyville has quite a few).

I read a review of this game on Zrecs and since we love board games, Lukas got it for Christmas. He does really well with this cooperative play game of rolling a die, picking fruit, or putting a puzzle piece on the raven. Everyone plays against the raven in trying to collect all the fruit off the trees before the raven puzzle is completed. Lukas is good for 1 round usually, but no more. It's a great beginner game - we're hoping he grows to love games as much as we do.

Lukas & Grandma playing Orchard

2-Year-Old

Lukas is now an official 2-year-old... at school that is. Last Thursday (1/31/08) he spent his first day in the 2-year-old class. He got to be in class with his friend Hester and the teacher said they were excited to see each other. Hester and Lukas go to the same school on the same days, but apparently never get to play together. Isn't that sad? Looks like they only had their one day because I hear that Hester will be going on different days starting next week. Stinker.

Here's Lukas' letter about his new class...

We no longer receive Cuddle Grams, now we get Toddler Grams...

Looked like he had a pretty good first day, until it was bath time Thursday night. I noticed a red circle outline on his back. Upon closer investigation I noticed the red line was dashed. I think they were teeth marks. I asked him if someone bit him and he said "yeah". I asked if he got hurt and he said "boy hurt me". I don't think he made a fuss because I'm sure a teacher would have told me about it if they had known. Now I'm afraid he's learned about biting and will become the biter! Sadly, I think we'd all rather our child be on the receiving end of a bite.
