Bloody Boo Boo

I guess you could say that Lukas is officially walking now. He still does some crawling, but mostly he's toddling around. He's still kind of clumsy looking though, and falls down a lot. But now he's getting back up and walking again instead of just falling and crawling.

Monday he was walking out the front door and tripped over the threshold. He fell directly on his face onto the porch. I picked him up and there was blood. He had busted his top and bottom lip. It was our first bloody boo boo. After much crying and bloody paper towels, we orajelled him up, and went on about our day. We stopped by the hospital to visit Grandpa Holt and Lukas fell again - out of a chair and on his face. Luckily this time my foot cushioned the blow and his lip didn't bust open again. I'm sure it hurt though, glad I had packed the Orajel.

Oh, the joys of walking.

Lukas is 15 Months Old & Doing Well

We went to the pediatrician today for Lukas' 15-month shots. Don't ask me what they were, that stuff goes in one ear and out the other. I just know that he has to have them to get into school one of these days. He's started walking a lot this week, so at the doctor's office he cruised all around the waiting room. Fortunately there were only a few other people waiting. Which makes me wonder why we had to wait over 20 minutes past our appointment time to get a room. Oh well, I know how it is.

Lukas is 32 inches tall (95th percentile) and weighs 24 pounds (50th percentile). Two nurses gave him his shots at the same time, one in each leg, while I held his arms and whispered sweet nothings in his ear. When they stabbed, he made a crying face, but nothing came out and then he was fine. He acts worse than that when I change his diaper at the house. Weirdo. Doc says he's doing well and can skip his 18 month well child check. I think we'll see him again at age 2. Guess we won't be maxing out the wellness benefits on our insurance this year. Hooray.

Overnightin'

Lukas & Grandpa

Lukas spent the night with Grandma & Grandpa Holt on Sunday. He got to visit with lots of family. Grandpa Ed got him the cutest Razorback hat - he gets loads of compliments on it. He keeps it on pretty well too. Thanks Grandpa!

Around the House

I've hardly taken any pictures of the little guy lately - here's one of him in the tub with his new blue ducky that Jess gave him. Thanks Jess!

The house is being improved little by little - My Mom made a super-custom slipcover for the sofa that my Aunt Mary gave me. It looks so good, and so professional. Thanks Mom! (And no, she won't make one for you.)

Rich finally gave me my Christmas present - and I don't know what the name of it is. It's little organizer things with spring-loaded hinges and you put them on the false drawer fronts in front of your sink. Every inch of extra storage in the kitchen helps. Thanks Rich!

Photos in Red

I should've cropped Nanna's hand out of this shot.

Back on December 2nd, 2006, I took some pictures of Lukas, Kevin, Kellie, Nanna, and Grandma Barb (a couple with me) to give them as Christmas gifts. Now they are available on the net for all to see. We all wore red shirts and jeans, because that seemed Christmas-y. We took the pictures at Nanna's house. It was COLD!

A Week of Firsts - Not For the Squeamish

Lukas is having his first diaper rash this week. Can you believe we haven’t had to deal with this yet? Of course, I am well read on the subject of diaper rashes. I’ve been applying all sorts of ointments and trying to let his bottom “breathe”.

Another first this week is the first time Lukas pooped on the floor. This was done while his bottom was “breathing” before his bath tonight. It really seemed like a good idea at the time. He was playing in his room naked while I ran the bath water. I turned the water off, went to get him, and wondered what he was picking off his leg and trying to get off his finger. And then I saw – oh, the horror. He had pooped partly on the rug, but mostly on the hardwood floor (the hardwood floor with quarter-inch gaps between the boards). I picked him up while saying “not in your mouth”, tossed him in the tub (contaminating all the bath toys), pulling the plug, getting tub toys out of the tub, and then turning on the shower. He sat in the shower while I ran in and out cleaning poo from between the floorboards, out of the rug, and off toys. There was a book that did not survive the incident. He was in the shower so long that we had to run him a lukewarm bath to soap up in.

Hmmm, I think that was his first shower too.

Can you believe I didn’t capture any of this on “film”?

Happy New Year - or whatever.

Lukas & I had a quiet New Year’s Eve. Rich was at work, but he thought he’d make it home in time for the countdown. Nanna came over and stayed with Lukas while I went grocery shopping (so fun). I should have known things were going downhill when I realized on Sunday morning that I had no Asti Spumante to ring in the New Year with – and it was SUNDAY. I bought a fizzy nonalcoholic beverage at Wild Oats to be the stand-in. As midnight approached, Lukas was snoozing, I was working, and Rich’s work was booming. He called and said no way he’d be home in time for midnight. Bummer. So at 11:45 I headed downstairs and turned on the tube, got out 2 glasses (just in case), and peeled the foil off the top of my fizzy beverage. At 11:58 there was still no Rich, so I decided to pop the top and toast myself. Except it wasn’t a cork, it was a screw top, and I couldn’t get it open. I tried and tried, even while counting down “5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year! Ouch, this is hurting my hand.” I gave up and headed back upstairs to work.

Whatever.
